Age suitability

Built for early readers, run by parents.

BookWords is designed for children learning to read, but the app itself is operated by a parent or caregiver — not handed to a child unsupervised. Details on content, data, and design choices are below.

Who uses BookWords
A parent or caregiver holds the phone and operates the camera. The child benefits from the vocabulary cards it produces, but does not need to interact with the app's controls directly. It is not designed as a stand-alone kids' app.
Content
All content comes from words found in the user's own physical books, plus sourced dictionary definitions and synonyms. BookWords does not include user-generated social content, chat, ads, or third-party media.
No gamification or manipulative design
There are no streaks, points, badges, or characters designed to drive compulsive use. The goal is a quick, calm capture — not engagement for its own sake.
Data & privacy
BookWords does not knowingly collect personal information from children. Book photos are used on-device to read a word and are discarded once a card is approved. Sign in with Apple is optional and not required to use the core app.
No ads, no in-app purchases
BookWords contains no advertising and no in-app purchases. A future option to order printed flashcards is planned and will be clearly optional and parent-initiated.
